General Description:
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas as it is commonly known is colorless and has a sweet odor and taste. It is nonflammable and nontoxic, but is an oxidizer and supports combustion. At higher temperatures it decomposes into nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrous oxide is soluble in water, alcohol and oils. Nitrous oxide is most commonly prepared by careful heating of ammonium nitrate, which decomposes into nitrous oxide and water vapor.
Uses: Nitrous oxide is most commonly used for anesthesia and analgesia. It is also used for cryosurgery, manufacturing of chemicals andsemiconductors, and as a fuel oxidant in racing cars
