General Description:
Nitrogen is colorless, odorless, tasteless, nontoxic, inert and represents 78.08 percent of the atmosphere. Nitrogen is nonflammable and does not support combustion. It is slightly soluble in water and most other liquids. Nitrogen does not conduct heat and electricity well.

Uses:
Nitrogen has a wide range of uses. It is used in food processing and packing and for blanketing, as well as for storage for protecting raw materials or finished products in liquid form from the formation of peroxides and/or gum, and from contamination by oxygenated components. Nitrogen is used as a carrier gas in gas chromatography, Nitrogen is the balance gas of the calibration gas mixtures for environmental monitoring systems and industrial hygiene gas mixtures. Nitrogen is largely used as purge, dryier or blanket gas for analyzers or chemical reactors (under gaseous state or at low temperature liquid state)
Liquid nitrogen is used for freezing of perishable foods, deflashing of rubber tires, cooling of concrete, cooling of electronic equipment etc. Furthermore, liquid nitrogen can be used for freezing of liquids in pipelines for emergencies, low temperature stabilization and hardening of metals, preservation of blood, sperm and other biological and refrigeration of foods, as well as in missile and space programs.
